Mid-autumn Festival
The Mid-autumn Festival is one of the most important festivities in China. According to Chinese lunar calendar, the 15th day of the eighth month is the exact midst of autumn, so it’s called the Mid-autumn Festival. During this festival, families gather together to have a feast and eat moon cakes while watching the full moon in the sky. The moon cake symbolizes family reunion because of its round shape. It is usually made of wheat flour with fillings of various flavors, very tasty if you have a sweet tooth.
Chongyang Festival
This is a festival for elderly people on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar, usually falling in October. In Chinese folklore, the number nine is the largest number and it’s a homonym to the Chinese word jiu, which contains the auspicious meaning of “a long and healthy life”. On this day, people are encouraged to visit or send greetings to the senior members of their family, making it a festival full of love and respect. B-Passage Two
With the development of economy, more and more people begin to pay attention to food quality. Nowadays many people taste different food from other countries out of curiosity, but not many know the different food culture.
When Chinese people meet, they would often ask: “Have you had your meal?” In fact, it is a kind of greeting. But foreigners cannot understand that. They tend to think you want to invite them to dinner. As Chinese think food is essential to people, asking such questions means showing concern about you.
Chinese food is not only quite delicious, but also very pleasing to your senses. In the US, people pay more attention to the nutrition of food. The cuisine and table manners are also quite different.
Some Westerners believe that Chinese people eat everything, even things they think not eatable. Ingredients such as frogs, insects are rarely used in Western cuisine. But that is not the case in China. And Chinese cooks like to chop everything into bite size pieces, thus people don’t need knives to cut it, and just pick up their food with chopsticks. Westerners cook food in big pieces and serve it with knives and forks for cutting it up.
The names of Chinese food often confuse foreigners a lot in the restaurant, because many names of the food would never tell you what exactly the food or the dish is. For example, one dish is called “Ants Climbing the Trees”, but the food is simply composed of potato noodles and bits of meat. However, most of Western foods have simple and clear names and by the name you know what the food is. For instance, there is a traditional food called “Fish and Chips” in the UK. Obviously, it contains fried fish and potato chips. Chinese are always attentive when it comes to food names, since the beautiful names could stir up a good imagination and appetite.
In addition, Chinese traditionally eat at round tables, particularly family meals, as it’s convenient to share dishes with others. Roundness symbolizes unity in China. Westerners eat at square tables, which is more convenient for individual meals, with long tables for bigger groups.

B-Passage Three
In a remote mountain village, a small group of beekeepers faced a challenge: how to sell their high-quality, organic honey to a wider audience. For years, they relied on local markets, but sales were limited, and profits barely covered their costs. Determined to improve their livelihoods, they decided to embrace modern marketing techniques to share their unique product with the world.
The honey, produced from wildflowers found only in the region, is known for its rich flavor and health benefits. However, the beekeepers lacked the resources and knowledge to market it effectively. That’s when a young entrepreneur, Mei, stepped in to help. Mei had recently returned to the village after studying business and marketing in the college. She saw the potential of the honey and proposed a plan to transform their business.
First, Mei helped the beekeepers create a brand identity. They named their product “Golden Blossom Honey” and designed eco-friendly packaging that highlighted its organic nature and unique origin. Next, they built an online presence by creating a website and social media accounts. Mei also filmed short videos showcasing the beekeepers’ traditional methods and the beautiful mountain scenery, which quickly gained attention online.
To reach more customers, Mei partnered with e-commerce platforms and local influencers who shared the story of Golden Blossom Honey. She even organized tasting events in nearby cities, where people could experience the product firsthand.
The results were remarkable. Within a year, sales tripled, and the beekeepers’ incomes increased significantly. The success of Golden Blossom Honey not only improved their lives but also brought attention to the village’s natural beauty and culture. Mei’s innovative marketing approach proved that even small businesses in remote areas could thrive with the right strategy and determination.
