FUNCTIONS OF LOGISTICS
Logistics is the physical flow process of goods from the pointof origin to the point ofconsumption concerning transportation, warehousing andstorage, loading and unloading, goodshandling, packing, distribution processingdelivery and information management. For example,after a commercial transactionis done, logistics will carry out the transfer of goods fromthe seller to thebuyer for the lowest cost and in the most effective manner. During the transferprocess,logistics facilities, equipment (carriers) , administration of information andstandardizationare needed.
Logistics has three major functions. Firstly, it creates timevalue. The same goods canbe valued differently at different times. Goods areoften in stagnation during the transferprocess, which is called the storage oflogistics. Secondly, it creates location value. Thesame goods can be valueddifferently at different locations. The value added during the transferprocessis the location value of logistics. Thirdly, it creates distribution processingvalue.Sometimes the distribution processing changes the packages of the goods.That is, during thisstage, it cuts large packages of goods into smaller parts,which creates added value for goods.
